Star of the Seas is Delivered to Royal Caribbean

On July 10, 2025, Royal Caribbean took delivery of the Star of the Seas from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. This is the second Icon class ship to be built, and will share the title of the largest cruise ship with her sister ship, the Icon of the Seas. 

A Ceremony Honoring the Crew

With over 1,250 crew members in the ships AquaTheater, the handing off ceremony took place with Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty and Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, along with Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm. All the staff and crew were recognized for their hard work over the years building the Star of the Seas.

Built for Fun

Star of the Seas will comes packed with amenities to ensure a fun holiday while onboard. This includes over six record breaking waterslides, the AquaDome, more than 40 food and drink venues, and eight neighborhoods, a feature Royal Caribbean is known for.

Adrenaline seekers will enjoy Thrill Island, the waterpark with the record breaking waterslides and Crown's Edge, the 154 feet above the ocean skywalk. If you want something more relaxed you can find Chill Island which has the largest pool at sea and a swim-up bar. For the kiddos in the group there is Surfside where there are splash pools and eateries for the family.

The AquaDome will feature wrap-around ocean views and hosts the AquaTheater for water infused acrobatic shows. The adult's only area is call the Hideaway which has a suspended infinity pool, a DJ, bar, and terrace with whirlpools. 

The vessel will also have a Royal Promenade with floor-to-celling ocean views, and open-air Central Park with more than 30,500 real plants, and several restaurant options. 

Chief Dog Officers Sailor and Rover.

And let's not forget Sailor and Rover, the Chief Dog Officers (CDO) for the Star of the Seas. Royal Caribbean continues the tradition of the CDO who have the very important job of bringing joy to everyone on the ship. Engineered to be Amazing

At 248,663 gross tonnage, Star of the Seas can handle 7,600 passengers with 2,350 crew. The vessel will be Royal Caribbean's third ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The fourth ship powered by LNG will be Legend of the Seas, the third Icon class ship set to debut in 2026.

Announced a few days earlier was the ship's godmother, vocal legend Diana Ross. “I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” said Diana Ross. “Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”

The Star of the Seas will homeport for now in Port Canaveral, Florida and offer trips to the Caribbean and Bahamas, not to mention Royal Caribbean's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.
